Company custom fields allow you to capture data custom to your organization in a standardized format. Greenhouse Recruiting includes custom fields for applications, candidates, jobs, openings, and offers, as well as custom referral questions and rejection questions.

Note: Custom rejection questions are only available to Advanced and Expert subscription tiers.

To manage custom fields, select Configure Icon_-_Configure.png icon, then click Custom Options on the left.

Scroll to find Company Custom Fields.

Sometimes it may be necessary to delete a custom field as your organization grows or changes.

General considerations

  • For custom fields that were marked as required, there is no way to manually remove the custom field or associated data from the record. Consider editing the custom field to mark it as optional in order to delete the associated data and then the custom field itself.
  • For custom fields that were marked as optional, the custom field data can be manually removed from the applications, candidates, jobs, openings, or offers by editing the field, removing the data, and saving this change. Once complete, you can delete the custom field itself.

When a custom field is deleted, the custom field will no longer populate going forward on new applications, candidates, jobs, openings, or offers.

For any existing applications, candidates, jobs, openings or offers that do not have data associated with the custom field, the field will no longer appear on them.

However, for any existing applications, candidates, jobs, openings, or offers that had data associated with the custom field prior to the field being removed, the field and associated data will remain. If you intend to completely remove a custom field and all its associated data, you must remove the data at the application, candidate, job, openings, or offer-level first, then delete the custom field itself.

Note: If you intend to delete a custom job field and all the custom job field's associated data across all jobs, it may help to first run a report to see which jobs contain data on the custom job field. Read more here: Can I delete a custom job field? What will happen?
