Add a custom referral question

Permissions: Job Admins, who can manage custom fields, and Site Admins

Product tier: Available for all subscription tiers

Referral questions enable your organization to capture structured data for referrals made by your existing employees. By default, Greenhouse Recruiting provides the following referral specific questions/fields:

Relationship
Work History
Rating
When we reach out (identified or anonymous referral)
They know they're being referred
Referral Notes

Additionally, your organization can create custom referral questions to capture other data during the referral process. In this article, we will cover how to add a new custom referral question, and how to reorder referral questions.

Click the Configure icon in the upper right-hand corner and select Custom Options from the left-hand panel.

On the subsequent page, click Referral Questions under the Company Custom Fields section.

From the Manage Referral Question Fields page, click Add Field.

On the New Referral Question Field page, configure the following information:

Field Name	Description/Notes
Field	Input the name or question for this custom referral question
Description	Input an optional description for the field. Values input here will appear when a user hovers over the tooltip icon to the right of Field
Type	Greenhouse Recruiting supports the following question types for referral questions: Short textbox Long textbox Yes/No Single select Multi select Currency Number Date URL User Notes: For Single select and Multi select types, input each option on a separate line. Once a Custom Referral Question is saved, the question type can no longer be edited.
Required	If checked, the user must respond to this custom referral question to successfully submit a referral.
Placeholder	This value will initially load in the empty field (i.e. Select an option)

Click Save at the bottom of the page when finished.

All future user submitted referrals will include the new custom referral question.

Reorder Referral Questions

New referral questions are added to the bottom of the list of referral questions, and will appear in this same order on the Add a Referral page.

To change the order of referral questions, navigate to the Manage Referral Question Field page (Configure > Custom Options > Referral Questions).

Click and hold any referral question, drag into the desired position, and drop the referral question into the new location.
