Primary job posts allow your organization to choose which job post should be used to automatically populate certain tokens and fields throughout the Greenhouse Recruiting platform, including:

Note: *This only applies if the candidate did not apply through a job post. If the candidate applied through a job post, the ((JOB_NAME} email token and the Job Details tab are populated by information from the job post through which the candidate applied.

Note: Organizations with an Essential subscription cannot edit the primary job post selection.

Set primary job post manually

To set the primary job post for a job, navigate to the job (Jobs > select a single Job) and click the Job Setup tab. Click Job Posts on the left.

Under the Primary column, click the button to the right of the job post you wish to set as primary for the job.

Note: Job Admins without the permission stripe 'Can create, edit, and delete job posts' can see which post is selected as primary, but cannot edit the selection.

Set primary job post automatically by default logic

If a job currently has no posts and you create a new post for the job, Greenhouse Recruiting automatically assigns that post as primary. If you create additional posts for the job later, you can manually edit which post is marked as primary by following the steps above.

For existing jobs with job posts created before the release of this feature, Greenhouse Recruiting uses the following logic to set the primary job post automatically:

  • If any live, external job posts exist, the oldest one is marked as the primary job post. If no posts match this criteria, move to the next bullet.
  • If any offline, external job posts exist, the oldest one is marked as the primary job post. If no posts match this criteria, move to the next bullet.
  • If any live, internal job posts exist, the oldest one is marked as the primary job post. If no posts match this criteria, move to the next bullet.
  • If any offline, internal job posts exist, the oldest one is marked as the primary job post. If no posts match this criteria, move to the next bullet.
  • If none of the above options exist, no primary job post is set automatically.

If someone deletes the job post marked as primary, Greenhouse Recruiting uses the logic outlined above to automatically set a new primary job post.
