Fields allow your organization to collect and organize information about onboarding new hires and employees.
The employment status field indicates a new hire's type of employment, such as full-time or part-time. You can use this field to automatically assign specific tasks and E-Signatures through the new hire's onboarding plan.
The employment status field includes four default options which you can edit to match your organization's unique needs.
Access the employment status field
From your Greenhouse Onboarding homepage, navigate to Settings > Company Info > Fields.
On the Fields page, scroll to Additional Information to find the Employment Status field.
Note: Your field's display name and field group can be edited, which means your organization may be storing this field under a different name or field group.
Edit the employment status field
From the Fields page, click your Employment Status field to edit it.
On the Edit Field page, you can update the following elements:
- Display name
- Help text

Employment status field selection options
When editing or adding field options, you'll need to provide an original value, display name, and external value. Learn more about these values below:
Column Name | Description |
Original Value | The original value is assigned to each employment status option when it's created. It's used as a unique identifier on the backend of Greenhouse Onboarding to track the option. The original value can't be edited. Editing the display name of an option will not change the option's original value. |
Display Name | Your users will see the display name listed in the dropdown when selecting an employment status option. It will also be displayed on a new hire's profile. Editing an option's display name will update the way it's displayed everywhere in your organization's Greenhouse Onboarding account. |
External Value | External values are used in association with third-party integrations to an HRIS. External values can be updated, allowing your team to input the matching field name your integration partner needs to successfully sync data between Greenhouse Onboarding and their platform. If you aren't using any third-party integrations, you'll likely not need to make any adjustments to this column. |
Note: The Terminated employment status option can't be edited and won't display when you're editing this field. However, it will always appear as an option in the employment status dropdown on an employee profile.
