Emissary is a text recruiting platform built to make candidate engagement easy. It empowers recruiting teams, HR departments, and staffing firms with efficient tools that work in harmony with any ATS, HRIS, or recruiting site.
Greenhouse Recruiting's integration with Emissary allows you to access your SMS-based Emissary conversations within Greenhouse Recruiting. This is not only for your convenience, but also provides a transcript record for each candidate that can be preserved for posterity. Each Emissary inbox may be linked to, at most, one Greenhouse Recruiting account. This setup process needs to be performed once for each inbox.
In this article, we will cover how to:
- Configure User Setup Permissions in Greenhouse Recruiting
- Create Harvest API Key for the Greenhouse Recruiting / Emissary Integration
- Add Harvest API Key to Emissary
- Use the Greenhouse Recruiting / Emissary Integration
Configure User Setup Permissions in Greenhouse Recruiting
In order to enable the Greenhouse Recruiting / Emissary integration, you will need the developer permission Can manage ALL organization’s API Credentials.
Contact a Greenhouse user in your organization with Site Admin level permissions with the additional user-specific permission Can edit another user's advanced permissions to apply the API credential management permission to your account. Have the user with Site Admin level permissions edit your user account's permissions by navigating to the Configure icon > Users > Your Name.
The user with Site Admin level permissions should navigate to the Permissions panel on your user page and expand the Developer Permissions dropdown menu.
Select Can manage ALL organization’s API Credentials so that a check is in the checkbox. When finished, click Save.
Repeat as necessary for any other user that should have access to set up the integration.

Add Harvest API Key to Emissary
Navigate to your Emissary inbox and locate the Tenant dropdown. Click ATS Integrations.
Click Integrate Greenhouse next to the Greenhouse Recruiting logo.
You will see a list of instructions that guide you through the process of creating a Harvest API key in Greenhouse Recruiting. If you have not created the Harvest API key already, follow the steps provided to create the key.
The final step of the process will prompt you to paste the Harvest API key you created in Greenhouse Recruiting. Provide the API key, then click Finish Integration.
That is it! If successful, you will see the integration and number of contacts that are being synced currently between Emissary and Greenhouse Recruiting.
Note: The integration uploads candidate conversations nightly to Greenhouse Recruiting in order to provide a full day's worth of conversation at a time, so conversations will not appear immediately in Greenhouse Recruiting. Any conversations that exists in your Emissary inbox before it is linked to your Greenhouse account should be visible the morning after the first synchronization process. Likewise, any subsequent conversations should appear each following morning.
Use the Greenhouse Recruiting / Emissary Integration
Once the integration setup steps are complete, using the Greenhouse Recruiting / Emissary integration is simple. Conversations will take place throughout the day while using the various tools of Emissary's Text Platform. Through the integration, those conversations will be saved each day within Greenhouse Recruiting.
