Canvass is an asynchronous video interviewing platform that replaces traditional phone screens to save tons of time for your hiring team while giving candidates more flexibility.

Greenhouse Recruiting's integration with Canvass allows you to seamlessly add a Canvass interview to a job's interview plan.

Enable the Greenhouse Recruiting/Canvass integration

Sign into Canvass and navigate to your Company Settings.

Select and add “Greenhouse” as an integration from the drop-down. You’ll be provided with an API key that’s automatically generated for you.

Once you have your API key, click here to open a ticket with Greenhouse Support.

Note: Do not send your API key in unencrypted communication (such as email and support tickets). If they are needed for setup, Greenhouse Support will provide a secure way to send your API keys.

Wait for a confirmation email from Greenhouse Support. You may be required to verify your account before you can proceed.

If they need your API key, the Greenhouse Support Team will provide a SendSafely link where you can enter your API key. Once Greenhouse Support has been notified that you’ve entered your API key, they will send a confirmation email.

Add a Canvass stage to an interview plan

Once the Greenhouse Recruiting/Canvass integration is enabled for your organization, you will be able to add a Canvass interview as an Interview stage. 

To add a stage to an existing job, navigate to a job (All Jobs > Job Name) and click the Job Setup tab.

Select Interview Plan on the left side of the page and click + Add a Stage.


Select the Canvass stage on the next window. When you’re finished, click Add to apply the stage to the job's interview plan.

Set up the interview in the Canvass stage

After the stage has been added to the job's interview plan, you’ll need to configure the interview. To configure the interview, click Edit Interview from within the stage.

Choose the interview from the dropdown menu. These options are based on the positions you’ve created in Canvass.

Assign at least one Greenhouse Recruiting user to grade/review submitted interviews. When you’re finished, click Save.

Note: All configurations for the interview (including the email template) will need to be done in Canvass. 

Send and review an interview

When candidates are moved into the Canvass interview stage, Greenhouse will display a Send Test link.

Note: When you send an interview from inside Greenhouse Recruiting, the interview instructions will still be sent by Canvass.

After it has been sent, an interview’s status will display in Greenhouse Recruiting.

Once the candidate has submitted their response, the Interview Kit will contain a link to view the submitted response in the Canvass application.

Click on Canvass Video Interview to navigate to the Interview Kit.

Click on View Report to see the candidate’s response in Canvass (opens in new tab).

View their response and provide your evaluation via a Scorecard within Greenhouse.
