Qualified by PullRequest offers on-demand code challenge assessments that are evaluated by experts in the field of software engineering for the specific skills that you’re hiring for.

Greenhouse Recruiting's integration with PullRequest allows you to seamlessly add PullRequest’s assessment to a job's interview plan, then send assessments to candidates and review the results.

In this article, we will cover:

Enable the Greenhouse Recruiting / PullRequest integration

To enable the Greenhouse Recruiting / PullRequest integration, have an owner of your Qualified by PullRequest organization navigate to the Greenhouse integrations page, under PullRequest > Settings > Integrations.

Select Greenhouse, then click Connect.

On the subsequent page, click Create access key to generate an access code for Greenhouse Recruiting.

Copy the access key to a secure notepad or clipboard, and click OK.

Once you have copied your API key, click here to open a ticket with Greenhouse Support. Alternately, if logged in to your Greenhouse account, click Get Help from bottom-left of any screen to be connected to the Greenhouse Support team on chat.

Note: Do not send the API key in this initial email/chat. API keys allow access to sensitive data and must be kept secret. If an API key is shared in an email and your email is intercepted by a malicious third party or your email account is hacked, the hacker would be able to view and access your API key. For this reason, we require API keys to be shared securely using SendSafely, Greenhouse’s secure data transfer platform. The Greenhouse Support team will provide a secure link for you.

The Greenhouse Support team will send an email confirming the ticket has been created and may require account verification before they can receive your API key. The Greenhouse Support team will send a SendSafely link for you to enter your API key in a secure message.

The Greenhouse Support team will email you to confirm that your API key has been set up in your account and your integration is enabled.

Add the PullRequest stage to job’s interview plan

Once the Greenhouse Recruiting / PullRequest integration is enabled for your organization, you will be able to add the PullRequest assessment as an interview stage.

To do this for an existing job, navigate to a job (All Jobs > Job Name) and click Job Setup from the navigation bar.

From the Job Setup page, navigate to Interview Plan on the left-hand panel. Click Add stage.

From the Add Stage dialog box, select the PullRequest stage. When finished, click Add to apply the stage to the job's interview plan.

Configure the PullRequest stage

Once the PullRequest stage has been added to the job's interview plan, click Edit Take Home Test. Use the drop-down menu to choose assessments that you have previously set up in Qualified by PullRequest.

Select the appropriate assessment and assign at least one Greenhouse user to grade/review submitted assessments. When finished, click Save.

Note: Keep in mind that all configurations on the assessment itself, as well as the email template, will need to be done in PullRequest and not in Greenhouse Recruiting.

Send and review the PullRequest test

When candidates are moved into the PullRequest interview stage, Greenhouse will display a Send Test link. Click Send Test to send the assessment to the candidate.

Note: When you send a test from Greenhouse, the interview instructions are actually sent by PullRequest.

After the test is sent, the status of the assessment will be viewable in Greenhouse:

Once the candidate has submitted their test, and PullRequest has finished reviewing the submission, the interview kit will contain a link to view the submitted test on PullRequest. Click View Report to view the results on Qualified by PullRequest.

From the Qualified by PullRequest page, you’ll have the necessary tools to properly grade the candidate from the given report. You will also be able to download the code challenge and the candidate's submission.
