By deeply analyzing the text from a candidate's resume against a job description, our platform provides detailed match scores, identifies key skill gaps, and highlights a candidate's unique strengths, enabling your team to make faster, more informed hiring decisions.
The SkillMatchIQ integration with Greenhouse Recruiting allows your team to seamlessly trigger an AI-powered analysis directly from the Greenhouse interface. Results, including scores, detailed notes, and filterable tags, are automatically pushed back to the candidate's profile, keeping your entire workflow within Greenhouse.
The integration uses two distinct connection methods for full functionality:
- Assessment API: Connects Greenhouse to SkillMatchIQ's testing services. This requires a SkillMatchIQ API Key that you provide to Greenhouse Support.
- Harvest API (OAuth 2.0): Allows SkillMatchIQ to securely write detailed results back to candidate profiles. This is a one-click authorization you perform from the SkillMatchIQ platform.
Enable the SkillMatchIQ Integration
Enabling the integration is a two-part process that requires a one-time setup.
Prerequisites
- You must have an active SkillMatchIQ account.
- You must have Site Admin permissions in Greenhouse Recruiting with the user-specific permission Can manage ALL organization’s API Credentials.
Provide assessment API key to Greenhouse
This key allows Greenhouse to access SkillMatchIQ's assessment services.
Log in to your SkillMatchIQ account.
Navigate to the API Keys page from the main navigation menu.
Click Create API Key. Give it a descriptive name, such as "Greenhouse Assessment Key," and save it.
A new API key will be displayed. Copy this key to a secure location immediately. For security reasons, you will not be able to view it again.
Follow the steps in this article to work with Greenhouse support to add the assessment stage in your interview plans.
Once you’ve set up your interview plans and configured your take home test, you’ll be able to send the test to candidates.
Authorize the Harvest API Connection via OAuth 2.0
This step allows SkillMatchIQ to securely post results back to Greenhouse.
Log in to your SkillMatchIQ account.
Navigate to the Integrations page.
Find the Greenhouse integration card and click Connect.
You will be redirected to a Greenhouse authorization page. Log in when prompted.
Greenhouse will display a list of permissions SkillMatchIQ requires to post notes, tags, and custom fields. Review the permissions and click Authorize. You may authorize with a service user account if you prefer - See more here.
After a successful authorization, you will be redirected to a SkillMatchIQ page that securely logs you back into your account and then automatically redirects you to the Integrations page.
The Greenhouse card will now show a Connected status.
That's it! Your accounts are now securely linked. The integration will automatically create the necessary custom fields in Greenhouse for you.
Add the SkillMatchIQ Assessment Stage to an Interview Plan
To use the integration, you must add the "SkillMatchIQ Assessment" stage to a job's Interview Plan in Greenhouse.
In Greenhouse Recruiting, navigate to a job and go to Job Setup > Interview Plan.
Click Add a Stage.
In the "Add Stage" window, scroll down and select SkillMatchIQ Assessment.
Click Add. The stage is now part of your interview plan for this job.
Pro-Tip: Add the SkillMatchIQ Assessment stage to your organization's default job templates to make it available for all new jobs automatically.
Use the SkillMatchIQ integration
Sending a candidate for assessment
Once the stage is added to an interview plan, you can send any candidate for analysis.
Important Note: The "Send Test" action triggers an automated analysis of the candidate's existing resume against the job description. No action is required from the candidate, and they will not receive any emails or notifications from this process.
From a candidate's profile in Greenhouse, move them to the SkillMatchIQ Assessment stage.
The Send test to candidate link will appear in the stage card. Click the link
A pop-up window will appear. From the "Test" dropdown, select the desired analysis type. We recommend Comprehensive Analysis for the most detailed results.
Click Send Test.
The analysis has now begun. The status in Greenhouse will show as "Sent," and the results will be posted back to the candidate's profile automatically once complete (typically within 1-3 minutes).
Reviewing assessment results in Greenhouse
The assessment results are automatically pushed to four key areas on the candidate's Greenhouse profile.
A detailed, formatted note is added to the candidate's activity feed containing:
Overall Match Score: An easy-to-read percentage score.
Key Skills Analysis: A summary of matched skills, skill gaps, and additional skills.
Link to Full Report: A secure link to the detailed, interactive analytics dashboard in SkillMatchIQ.
For easy filtering and reporting, the following custom fields are automatically populated.
On the Application's Details Tab:

SkillMatch Job Fit Level (e.g., Excellent Fit, Good Fit)
SkillMatch Key Strengths
SkillMatch Development Areas
To help you quickly search and identify candidates, the integration automatically applies tags, such as:
- SkillMatchIQ Assessed
- High Potential Candidate (for top scores)
- Skills Gap Identified
For any job where you have assessed multiple candidates, SkillMatchIQ automatically generates and updates a "Job Leaderboard" note.
- Location: Navigate to the Job profile and click on the Notes tab.
- Content: This note contains a ranked list of all assessed candidates for that job, sorted by their overall match score. It also includes job-level insights, such as the most common skills and gaps across all candidates for that specific role.

Q: I sent a test, but the results never appeared, and the status is stuck on "Sent".
A: The most common reason is that the candidate profile in Greenhouse does not have a resume file attached or it is in an unsupported format. While the integration can attempt to pull attachments via the Harvest API, the most reliable method is to ensure a resume file (e.g., PDF, DOCX) is attached to the candidate's profile. Please verify a resume is attached and try sending the test again.
Q: What's the difference between the Assessment API Key and the OAuth Harvest API connection?
A: The Assessment API Key is what you provide to Greenhouse so they can request assessments from SkillMatchIQ. The OAuth connection is what you authorize from within SkillMatchIQ to grant us permission to write the detailed results (notes, tags, custom fields) back to your Greenhouse account. Both are required for the integration to function fully.
Q: Can I analyze a candidate against a different job than the one they applied for?
A: The integration analyzes a candidate against the specific job they are in the interview plan for. To analyze them against a different job, you would need to add the candidate to that job's pipeline in Greenhouse and send the test from there.
Q: How do I disconnect the integration?
A: In SkillMatchIQ, navigate to Settings > Integrations. You will see your active Greenhouse integration with an option to Disconnect. This will securely revoke all access tokens. You will also need to contact Greenhouse Support to have them deactivate the Assessment API configuration.
