This feature is currently in beta and may not be available to your organization.
Greenhouse Recruiting integrates with CLEAR® to help organizations securely verify candidate identities. This integration gives recruiters access to CLEAR’s trusted identity verification technology, designed to reduce impersonation, fraud, and spam in the hiring process.
Using CLEAR allows recruiters to confirm a candidate’s identity without leaving Greenhouse Recruiting. Once a candidate completes verification, their status is automatically updated in the candidate profile, giving hiring teams greater confidence in the authenticity of their applicants.
Send an identity verification request
To send a candidate an identity verification request with CLEAR, navigate to the candidate profile and select the Security screening tab.
Start the process by clicking the Request verification button.
Identity verification requests can be sent during any stage of the hiring process. They can also be sent from the main panel.
The candidate will receive an email with instructions. If the candidate does not have a MyGreenhouse account, they’ll be prompted to create one in order to complete the verification.
Once the candidate completes the process and CLEAR returns a result, the verification status updates automatically on the candidate profile.
Verification statuses
Possible statuses include:
- Verification complete – The candidate successfully verified.
- Verification failed – One or more checks did not pass.
- Unable to complete – The request was declined, expired, canceled, or the candidate’s location was unsupported.
- Pending – The candidate has not yet completed verification.
Whenever a status comes back from CLEAR, it is logged in the main panel as having been completed for that stage and in the right panel under the Identity verification section.
A verification can fail due to a mismatch between the candidate’s application information and the information provided to CLEAR, or if any of CLEAR’s security checks fail.
View CLEAR check details
When CLEAR returns the result of the request, click View in the right panel to see more information.
If the check passed, you'll see confirmation that the candidate's identity was verified. If it fails, the message will include details about which part of the verification did not pass, such as an issue with the candidate’s government ID.
Note: Details about identity verification should be used only by your internal recruiting and security teams and shouldn't be shared outside of your Greenhouse account.
If a candidate fails some of CLEAR’s checks but appears to be a legitimate applicant, you may want to follow up with them and send a new identity verification request. This gives the candidate a chance to correct any inaccurate or mismatched information.
Track identity verification requests
In the visual pipeline, verification status icons appear next to the candidate’s name, but only if a verification request has been sent. The icon reflects the candidate’s current status, and their verification status moves with them as they progress through the pipeline.
Each icon displays a tooltip on hover that briefly describes the status. These indicators help your team monitor progress at a glance and determine when further action may be needed.
Searching by identity verification request status
On both job-specific and all-candidate search pages, you can filter candidates by their CLEAR verification status: Verified, Failed, Pending, or Not yet verified. Filters reflect the candidate’s verification status for their current stage only.
Active and rejected candidates support all status filters. Hired candidates can only be filtered as Not verified. By default, all candidates are shown until filters are applied.
Configuring CLEAR
Enabling CLEAR identity verification requests across your organization
To set up or manage your settings for all RealTalent features, go to Configure and select RealTalent from the right hand menu. Choose Fraud from the tabbed list at the top.
Choose which offices and departments should have the ability to send identity verification requests. You can also see your organization's total usage.
Permissions
You can add the ability to send identity verification requests to your existing Job Admin levels. To edit your levels, go to Configure. Select Permissions from the menu, then select See and manage Job Admin levels.
Check Can view identity verification details for the levels that should see identity verification details on the candidate profile, in search, and in the visual pipeline.
The next level permission requires that the job level already has Can view identity verification details enabled first. Check Can request identity verification details for levels that should have the ability to initiate the request.
