This glossary explains the standard fields available in the new Greenhouse Analytics experience, which uses an updated data model. Use it to understand what each field means, what kind of data it contains, and how it can be used when building a data view (as a filter, group, or column).
Fields are organized by category, which reflects the type of object or record they belong to — such as applications, candidates, or jobs. The category names below match the group headings you see in the field list when building a data view. Most categories are available no matter which subject you start from.

Dimension — A categorical or descriptive field used to group or segment data. Dimensions are used to break down measures. Examples: Offer created at, Job name, Is candidate work authorized?, Application stage ID
Measure — A quantitative field that can be aggregated. Measures are numeric and can be summed, averaged, or counted. Examples: Applications, Closed jobs, Time to schedule interview (minutes)
Every field also has a data type, which describes the kind of value it holds. You can filter the field list by data type when building a data view. There are four data types:

Within an analytics data view, fields can be used as columns in a results table, as filters to narrow your data, or as groupings to aggregate it. For a step-by-step guide to building a data view, see Set up dashboards and data views in Analytics.
Note: Not all fields support all three uses. Some may be visible in tables but not usable as filters or group-by values.
Subjects
The data view builder starts with a subject, which defines what kind of data to focus on.
Your subject is the root of your question. Almost every field is reachable from almost every subject, so choosing a subject isn't mainly about which fields you can use — it's about what a single row in your results represents, and which records are included at all.
What your subject determines
The level of detail. One row in your results corresponds to one record of your subject. If you want information and counts per application, start from Applications. If you want that same information counted per job, start from Jobs instead. The same fields are available either way, but the results answer different questions.
Which records are included. Your results only include records that exist in your subject. Interviews are associated with applications, but an application doesn't necessarily have any interviews. If you start from Interviews, applications with no interviews scheduled don't appear at all. If you start from Applications and add interview fields, those applications are included — and an application with several interviews appears on several rows, one per interview.
The Category column in the table below tells you what one row represents:
Record — one row per record, such as an application or a job.
Event — one row per occurrence, such as a scheduled interview.
Change — one row per transition, such as a candidate moving between stages.
Summary — one row per pre-aggregated total, described in the subject's own description.
Tip: If a count looks lower than you expect, check your subject before you check your filters. Starting from a subject that depends on a related record — such as Interviews or Offer versions — leaves out records that don't have one.
Each record represents a candidate moving from one stage to another in the pipeline.

Note: Some field categories do not have a matching subject. Candidate education, Custom field options, Daily interviewer activity, Employee engagement activity, and Time in stage fields appear in the field list and can be added to a data view, but you cannot start a data view from them. Choose a related subject instead — for example, start from Interviewer activity to use Interviews per interviewer.
Field relationships and join paths
Field names in Analytics are shown as a breadcrumb with arrows — for example, Jobs → Offer versions → Offer created at. The breadcrumb is the path Analytics takes from your subject to reach that field. It appears as the group heading in the Add fields panel, and again in your Fields list once you've made a selection.
Read a breadcrumb from right to left: the last item is the field itself, and everything before it is the chain of related records the field is reached through.

The field belongs to Offer versions, reached from your subject through Jobs. Your subject isn't repeated in longer breadcrumbs.
Why the same field appears more than once
Records are often related in more than one way, so the same field can be reachable by several different paths. Searching for offer letter from the Applications subject returns Offer letter opened at under Jobs → Offer versions, Candidates → Offer versions, Recruiters → Offer versions, and Coordinators → Offer versions. It's the same field each time — what changes is the relationship it's reported through. Choose the breadcrumb that matches the question you're asking.
Your first choice sets the path
A data view can relate to each record in only one way, so the first field you add commits the path in its breadcrumb. Every record along that path is locked to that route, and the alternative routes to those records are greyed out.
In the example above, adding Jobs → Offer versions → Offer letter opened at commits Offer versions to the route through Jobs. Candidates → Offer versions, Recruiters → Offer versions, and Coordinators → Offer versions can no longer be selected. Hovering a greyed-out field explains which route is already in use — for example, "Offer versions is already joined via Jobs → Offer versions. Remove those fields to use a different path."
Choosing the right path
Decide which relationship you need before you start adding fields. The first field you add sets the path for everything that follows.
Filters set the path too. A field used only as a filter commits its route exactly as a column does.
To use a different path, remove the fields or the filter holding the current one. The greyed-out options become selectable again.
Changing your subject clears all fields and filters, which resets every path.
Note: A greyed-out field doesn't mean the data is unavailable. It means that field can't be reached that way alongside what you've already selected. The same field is still available through the path you've committed to.

Fields are listed below by category. Each entry shows the field type (dimension or measure) and the data type of the values it returns.
Field availability: Almost every field is available from almost every subject. The one exception is Daily employee engagement: when you start from that subject you can only use the employee engagement categories, and those categories are not available from any other subject. Categories affected by this are called out where they appear below.

You can combine multiple filters using AND/OR logic.
Grouping by fields like Department name or Office name helps break down metrics by team or location.
Department name returns the lowest-level department only, while Department name path returns the full hierarchy, with each level separated by a pipe (for example, Engineering | Frontend | Web). Office name and Office name path work the same way.
Date fields can be grouped by day, week, month, quarter, or year.
You can narrow a long field list by data type — Text, Number, Yes/No, or Date & time.
Measure fields (counts and averages) cannot be used as filters or group-by values — they appear in field selection only.

Your organization's custom fields are available in the data view builder, but they won't appear listed by their specific names. Instead, each type of record has its own pair of fields — one for the custom field's name and one for its value. Each record type also has fields describing how its custom field is configured: Is [record] custom field active?, Is [record] custom field private?, Is [record] custom field required?, Is [record] custom field approval required?, and [record] custom field description.
You can also add measure fields alongside your custom field columns (such as Applications or Active applications) to see counts broken down by each custom field.
Some standard Greenhouse fields, such as Employment Type, may also appear under custom fields in the builder. For more on the difference between system default fields and custom fields, see System default fields vs. custom fields.
Note: Custom field type and custom field value type are not available as fields.
