CodeSignal aims to make talent accessible by creating software and standards for assessing the technical skills of software developers.
Greenhouse Recruiting's integration with CodeSignal allows your organization to add a CodeSignal pre-screen assessment or tech screen to a job's interview plan.
Note: The person enabling this integration for their organization will need to be a CodeSignal admin.
Create a Harvest API key for the CodeSignal integration
To configure the Greenhouse Recruiting / CodeSignal integration, you'll need to create a Harvest API key.
Follow the steps in this article to create the key, and verify that the credentials and permissions below are selected when configuring the CodeSignal integration.
In the Create New Credential box, make the following selections:
- API type: Harvest
- Partner: CodeSignal (optional)
- Description: CodeSignal Harvest API key
Verify that the following permissions are selected for the CodeSignal integration:
- GET: Retrieve application

With your Greenhouse Recruiting Harvest API key copied, navigate to the Integrations page in CodeSignal. Click your name in the upper right-hand corner and select Integrations from the dropdown menu.
Paste your API key into the Harvest API Key field and click Save.
Fill in the appropriate Greenhouse subdomain for your account and click Save.
The subdomain can be found by looking at the URL when logged into Greenhouse Recruiting.
Note: Your subdomain likely will be app, app2, app3, etc., or yourcompany.
Provide CodeSignal assessment API key to Greenhouse Recruiting
From CodeSignal's Integration box, click the Assessment API tab.
Click Copy next to the Assessment API Key.
Once you've obtained your API key, fill out the form at www.greenhouse.io/asksupport or click here to open a ticket. Indicate whether you'd like the CodeSignal pre-screen stage, CodeSignal tech screen stage, or both stages added to your account, in which case you'll provide two API keys.
Note: Don't send the API key in this initial email. Greenhouse Support will respond with a SendSafely link for you to enter your API key.
Greenhouse Support will email you once your API key has been set up in your account and your integration has been enabled.
Note: To verify your identity, Greenhouse Support might request you provide a support verification code before adding the API key to your organization's account.
Select default senders (optional)
Note: This section is an optional step for CodeSignal Certify users only.
In CodeSignal, under Certify Default Senders, specify a team member as the default sender for each of your certified assessments. This is the individual on whose behalf CodeSignal will specify the assessment is from in the email invitation.
This only applies to candidates who receive an email invitation to take the test directly from CodeSignal or the candidate profile in Greenhouse Recruiting. The individual's email address won't be listed in the email invitation.
Click Save. The Greenhouse Recruiting / CodeSignal integration configuration is now complete!
Add CodeSignal stage to your job's interview plan
Once the Greenhouse Recruiting / CodeSignal integration is enabled for your organization, you'll be able to add the CodeSignal pre-screen (formerly CodeSignal test) or CodeSignal tech screen as an interview stage.
To do this for an existing job, navigate to a job (Jobs > Job Name) and click Job Setup from the job navigation bar.
From the Job Setup page, click Interview Plan on the left. Scroll down the page and click + Add a Stage.
From the Add Stage box, select the CodeSignal stage: CodeSignal pre-screen or CodeSignal tech screen.
When finished, click Add to apply the stage to the job's interview plan.
Send and review CodeSignal pre-screen or CodeSignal tech screen from Greenhouse Recruiting
When candidates are moved into the CodeSignal interview stage, Greenhouse will display a Send Test link.
Note: When you send a test from Greenhouse Recruiting, the interview instructions are actually sent by CodeSignal.
Select the pre-screen assessment or tech screen that you want to send, as well as the name of the person who should evaluate the test. The candidate's email address will be auto-populated.
The status of the pre-screen assessment or tech screen will be viewable in Greenhouse Recruiting (like Sent).
Note: Greenhouse Recruiting updates test scores once every hour, so there may be a small delay between a candidate's completion of a test and the recording of his/her score in Greenhouse Recruiting.
Once the pre-screen assessment or CodeSignal tech screen is completed, the candidate's score will be recorded in the relevant CodeSignal pre-screen or CodeSignal tech screen stage, and the grader will be notified via email to review the candidate's result and complete a scorecard in Greenhouse Recruiting.
Once the grader has completed their scorecard, their overall recommendation for the candidate will also be displayed along with the candidate's score in the CodeSignal pre-screen or CodeSignal tech screen stage on the candidate's profile in Greenhouse Recruiting.
Click CodeSignal pre-screen or CodeSignal tech screen within this stage to view a summary of the candidate's scores per task in the test.
Note: The CodeSignal pre-screen stage may appear as CodeSignal test on jobs or reports created before April 2022.
When viewing the summary of results, click View Report to view the candidate's results (including coding replays) in detail on CodeSignal.

Under the Description field, click + CodeSignal Interview Link to auto-generate an interview URL, which will populate at the top of the Description field.
