Zinc offers automated reference and background checks, helping customers put scalable process checks in place so deeper candidate insights are gleaned. 

Greenhouse Recruiting's integration with Zinc allows you to leverage background checks within your interview plans.

Retrieve your API key from Zinc

To retrieve your API key from Zinc, log into your Zinc account and select your name at the bottom of your Zinc profile.

Click Generate API key.


Click Copy. You'll enter the copied API key into Greenhouse Recruiting in the next step.


Enable the Zinc integration

Once you've received your API key, fill out the form at www.greenhouse.io/asksupport or click here to open a ticket with Greenhouse Technical Support.

Note: Don't send the API key in this initial email. Greenhouse Technical Support will respond with a SendSafely link for you to securely share your API key.

Once Greenhouse Technical Support receives your API key via SendSafely, we'll email you to confirm that your API key has been set up in your account and that your integration is enabled.

Note: To verify your identity, Greenhouse Technical Support might request you provide a support verification code before adding the API key to your organization's account.

Use the Zinc integration with Greenhouse Recruiting

Once the integration is enabled, add the Zinc background check by first navigating to a job dashboard and click the Job Setup tab. Select Interview Plan from the listed options. 

Click Add Stage to search and select the Zinc background check from the list.

Configure the interview stage placement, then click Edit on the interview kit to select the correct test and assign graders to review the assessment.

Send and review test

When a candidate enters the stage with a Zinc background check, your team can click Send Test to send the assessment to your candidates. 

When you send a test from Greenhouse Recruiting, the interview instructions actually are sent by Zinc.

The graders will be notified and can view a link to their submission directly from the scorecard in Greenhouse Recruiting.

Note: If you want to automate assessments being sent to your candidates, create a stage transition rule.

Once configured, assessments will be triggered to send automatically after a candidate moves into the partner assessment stage. 

Additional options

Custom branding: If you wish to add custom branding to your candidate’s journeys please contact your Zinc account manager.

Edit your reference questions: If you wish to edit the questions asked in references, you can do so from your questions page in Zinc. You can also enter company values and things you want Zinc to analyze across your checks.

Build your background check packages: If you wish to change the background checks shown in the Greenhouse Recruiting packages please contact your Zinc account manager.
