Boon is an employee referral platform. It turns a company's own employees into a recruiting channel: employees see open roles, refer people they know, track the status of every referral they send, and earn rewards when a referral is hired.
Boon's integration with Greenhouse Recruiting lets users do everything from inside Boon — refer candidates, see open roles, and track referral progress — while the integration keeps Greenhouse in sync in the background. Referrals submitted in Boon are automatically created as candidates in Greenhouse, open Greenhouse jobs are pulled into Boon so employees know what to refer against, and each referral's status (interviewing, offer, hired) flows back from Greenhouse into Boon so rewards can be paid out automatically.
Configure the Boon integration
To connect Greenhouse, reach out to your Boon customer success contact. They'll send you a unique setup link to authenticate the connection. Run the setup using a Greenhouse Admin account.
Once you receive your unique link:
Open the provided link.
Select Use my credentials.
Click I am an admin.
Review the list of permissions Boon is requesting, then click Next.
Boon requests the following access to your Greenhouse account:
Candidates
- Create, view, and update candidates
- View candidate notes
Applications
- Create, view, and update applications
- Move applications between stages
- View application stages
- View sources and referrers
- View rejection reasons and rejection details
Attachments
- Upload and view attachments (e.g. resumes)
Jobs
- View jobs, job posts, and openings
- View job interview stages, job owners, and job hiring managers
Interviews & scorecards
- View interviews, interviewers, and scorecards
Offers
- View offers
Company structure & users
- View departments, offices, and users
- View EEOC data
Click Open window — this redirects you to Greenhouse.
Enter your Greenhouse email and click Login to Greenhouse.
Click Authorize.
Note: It's recommended to check Authorize using a service account when connecting Greenhouse. Without it, the integration is tied to the authorizing person's personal Greenhouse account — if they lose access or leave, the connection breaks. A service account keeps the connection org-owned.
Account setup runs — this can take a few minutes.
Click Skip for now when prompted to select fields to map.
Note: If your organization has custom fields you'd like included, let your Boon customer success contact know and they'll set them up.
Setup is complete once you see the confirmation screen.
Once finished, reach back out to your Boon customer success contact to complete onboarding.
Once connected, everything happens from Boon, nothing needs to be entered directly in Greenhouse:
- Open Greenhouse jobs are pulled into Boon, so employees always see current roles to refer against.
- When an employee submits a referral in Boon, it's synced to Greenhouse automatically as a candidate, tagged with a Boon-specific source so it's identifiable as a referral.
- The candidate's resume is synced across, when provided.
- The referral is attributed to the referring employee.
- As the candidate's status changes in Greenhouse (interview, offer, hire), that status flows back into Boon so referral progress and reward eligibility stay current — without anyone checking Greenhouse directly.

Use the Boon integration with Greenhouse Recruiting
Everything below happens in Boon. The integration handles getting the data to and from Greenhouse automatically.
How to refer a candidate
- An employee opens a job in Boon (synced from Greenhouse) and selects Refer.
- They enter the candidate's details and submit — entirely within Boon.
- The referral syncs to Greenhouse automatically: the candidate is created there, tagged as a referral, and their resume is uploaded. No manual entry in Greenhouse is required.
Jobs synced from Greenhouse are marked with the Greenhouse logo in the admin panel.
Users can also refer candidates directly in Boon; any referral made on a job imported from Greenhouse syncs back to Greenhouse, with Boon marked as the source of the referral.
As the candidate moves through Greenhouse (interview, offer, hire), Boon picks up the status change automatically and updates the referral's status for the employee — they track everything from Boon, and rewards trigger on qualifying milestones without any manual check-in.
