Aperture is an AI interviewing platform. Aperture conducts a structured, conversational AI interview with each candidate, scores the transcript against the skills a role actually requires, and ranks every candidate against the rest of the applicant pool for that job, so recruiters get a consistent, comparable signal instead of a pile of unstructured screens.
Aperture's integration with Greenhouse Recruiting allows you to add the Aperture AI interview to a job's interview plan, send it to candidates without leaving Greenhouse, and receive each candidate's score, pool rank, and a link to their full report directly on their Greenhouse profile.
Before you begin
- You need Site Admin permissions in Greenhouse Recruiting with permission to authorize third-party integrations.
- You need an Aperture account with Admin permissions.
- Aperture must be enabled for your organization.
Enable the Aperture integration
Setting up Aperture with Greenhouse Recruiting has three parts: authorize Aperture from your Aperture account, provide your Aperture API key to Greenhouse Support, then add the Aperture stage to a job's interview plan. The second step involves a ticket with Greenhouse Technical Support, so allow time for their reply before you plan to send your first assessment.
To enable the integration, follow the steps in set up an assessment API integration to retrieve your API key from Aperture and set up the Aperture assessment stage in your interview plans. Once you've set up your interview plans and configured your take home test, you'll be able to send the test to candidates.
Connect Greenhouse from Aperture
In Aperture, go to Settings > Integrations.
On the Greenhouse card, click Connect.
You are redirected to Greenhouse to authorize the connection.
Note: Before authorizing, make sure you are signed in to Greenhouse as the user you want the integration to run as. Aperture recommends a dedicated Integration System User (a service account) rather than a personal account, so the connection isn't tied to one employee's access and keeps working if they change roles or leave. See Greenhouse's guide to Creating an ISU for an integration if you don't have one.
Review the permissions Aperture requests, then click Authorize.
After authorizing, you are returned to Aperture. The Greenhouse connection shows as Active and an initial sync begins automatically, importing your jobs, departments, offices, and users.
Aperture connects using OAuth 2.0 (authorization code flow). Aperture never asks for, and never stores, your Greenhouse user password.
About the Integration System User
Aperture acts through the Greenhouse user that authorized the connection, which is why Aperture recommends authorizing it with a dedicated Integration System User. Any note Aperture adds to a candidate is attributed to that integration user rather than to an individual member of your team, so it is always clear which activity came from Aperture. For more on integration users, see Greenhouse's article on Create an ISU for an integration.
Provide your Aperture API key to Greenhouse Support
In Aperture, on the Greenhouse connection, click the reveal icon next to Aperture API Key, then click Copy. You do not need to request a key from Aperture — your account generates its own.
Follow the steps in set up an assessment API integration to open a ticket with Greenhouse Technical Support and provide your Aperture API key.
Note: Do not send your API key in any unencrypted communication, such as email or the body of a support ticket. Greenhouse Technical Support will provide a SendSafely link for you to enter it securely. Wait for the confirmation email from Greenhouse Technical Support.
Once confirmed, Aperture is enabled on your Greenhouse account and you can add the Aperture stage to your interview plans.
Add the Aperture stage to an interview plan
In Greenhouse Recruiting, navigate to the job you want to use Aperture on.
Click Job Setup > Interview Plan.
Click + Add a Stage, then choose the Aperture take home test stage.
Save the interview plan. Repeat for any other job that should use the Aperture AI interview.
Understanding the integration
This section describes what Aperture adds to your Greenhouse account and what data it reads and writes. No action is required — it's here so you know what to expect.
The Aperture Rank custom field
Aperture keeps each candidate's position within the applicant pool up to date on their Greenhouse application using a custom application field. You do not need to create this field manually. The first time Aperture writes a rank for your organization, it creates the field automatically with these settings:
| Setting | Value |
| Field Type | Custom Application Field |
| Name | Aperture Rank |
| Value Type | Short Textbox |
If a field named Aperture Rank already exists on your account, Aperture reuses it rather than creating a duplicate. You can view it under Configure > Custom Options > Application.
What Aperture reads and writes in your Greenhouse account
Aperture requests only the permissions it needs to run and return assessments. Aperture reads the following:
| Greenhouse data | Used for |
| Jobs & Job Posts | Matching each candidate to the right role and its requirements |
| Departments & Offices | Mirroring your organization structure within Aperture |
| Users | Mapping your Greenhouse team members to Aperture accounts |
| Candidates & Applications | Identifying the candidate to assess and retrieve their resume |
| Custom Fields | Locating the Aperture Rank field |
Aperture writes the following:
| Greenhouse data | What Aperture writes | When |
| Take Home Test Result | Score, summary, and a link to the full Aperture report | Once, when the candidate's interview is scored |
| Aperture Rank Custom Application Field | The candidate's current rank, e.g. 3 of 8 | On scoring and when the candidate's rank changes as more candidates are scored |
| Candidate Note (Activity Feed) | (One Line Summary) Aperture: Ranked #3 of 8 — Score: 91/100 | On scoring, and on each rank change |
| Custom Application Field Definition | Creates the Aperture Rank field | Once, only if it does not already exist |
Aperture does not modify candidate profiles, move candidates between stages, reject candidates, or change any other Greenhouse data.
Field mapping
| Greenhouse | Aperture |
| Candidate's First & Last Name | Candidate's Name |
| Candidate's Email Address | Candidate's Email |
| Candidate's Resume Attachment | Resume used for Screening |
| Application ID | Aperture External Application Reference |
| Job Title | Role being Assessed |
| Job Post Content | Role Requirements to build the Interview |
| Department | Department |
| Office | Location |
| User Email Address | Aperture Team Member |
Use the Aperture integration with Greenhouse Recruiting
Once Aperture is enabled and added to a job's interview plan, your team works entirely from Greenhouse Recruiting.
Send the Aperture interview to a candidate
- Open the candidate's profile in Greenhouse Recruiting.
- Move the candidate to the Aperture stage.
- Click Send Test next to the Aperture stage.
Aperture emails the candidate their interview invitation. The invitation and any reminders are sent by Aperture.
Track the interview's status
After the interview has been sent, its status is shown on the candidate's profile in Greenhouse Recruiting. The status updates automatically as the candidate progresses.
Review the results
When the candidate completes their AI interview, Aperture scores it and writes the results back to Greenhouse Recruiting in three places:
The take home test result: the candidate's Aperture score, shown on the Aperture stage.
The Aperture Rank field: the candidate's position within the pool of everyone assessed for that job, e.g. 3 of 8. This stays current — as more candidates complete their interviews, Aperture updates the rank of everyone already assessed for that job.
A note on the candidate's Activity Feed: a one-line summary of rank and score, e.g. Aperture: Ranked #3 of 8 — Score: 91/100.
Once the candidate has submitted their interview, the Interview Kit contains a link to view the completed assessment in Aperture.
To see the candidate's full results in Aperture, click View Report. The Aperture report shows the per-skill breakdown, the interview transcript, and how the candidate compares to the rest of the pool for that job.
Withdrawing a candidate
If a candidate is rejected or withdrawn in Greenhouse Recruiting before completing their interview, Aperture cancels the pending interview automatically. No action is needed in Aperture.

Frequently asked questions
Does Aperture move candidates between stages in Greenhouse?
No. Aperture writes results back to the candidate's profile but never advances, rejects, or otherwise moves a candidate. Your team keeps full control of the pipeline.
Why does a candidate's Aperture Rank change after it was first written?
Rank is relative to everyone assessed for that job. When a new candidate completes their Aperture interview, the ranks of everyone already assessed are recalculated and updated in Greenhouse so the field is never stale.
Who is the user shown on Aperture's notes?
The Integration Service Account (ISU) is automatically created for Aperture when the integration is connected. Notes are attributed to the integration rather than to an individual teammate.
Can I use Aperture on more than one job?
Yes. Add the Aperture stage to each job's interview plan. Ranking is calculated per job, so candidates are only ever compared against others assessed for the same role.
What happens if a candidate does not complete their interview?
The stage stays in its pending state and no score or rank is written. You can resend the test from Greenhouse Recruiting.
