Alva Labs is a talent assessment and hiring platform. Alva combines science-backed psychometric assessments with a modern hiring system, helping teams make fair, data-driven hiring decisions.
Alva's integration with Greenhouse Recruiting allows users to connect their Greenhouse account to Alva - and then work with it in two ways:
With Alva's Hiring System
- Create Greenhouse jobs directly from Alva's Hiring System
- Automatically sync candidates from Greenhouse to Alva
With Alva's Assessment Layer
- Send Alva assessments to candidates directly from Greenhouse
- Track assessment status and see results and report links on the candidate's Greenhouse profile
Configure the Alva integration
Setting up the Alva integration takes about two minutes and is done entirely from Alva. Before you start, make sure:
- You have an admin role in Alva — you need it to see the Connect option
- You're a Site Admin in Greenhouse — only Site Admins can authorise integrations
Connect Alva to Greenhouse with OAuth
Open your Integrations page in Alva, click Add integration and select Greenhouse in the list.
Click Connect Greenhouse via OAuth.
You're redirected to Greenhouse. Review the access Alva requests and click Authorize.
You're redirected back to Alva, where the integration shows as connected.

Send the Alva API key securely to Greenhouse
To complete the assessment integration in Greenhouse, share your Alva API key with Greenhouse Support:
- On your Integrations page, click Greenhouse to open its settings
- Under Alva API Key, click Copy token
- Click here to open a ticket with Greenhouse Support
- Do not send the key in the initial message. Greenhouse will respond with a SendSafely link — use this to securely share your Alva API key
- After you submit the key securely, the Greenhouse Support team will confirm that your integration is enabled
When you connect, Alva automatically:
- Creates the webhook that syncs new candidates and applications from Greenhouse to Alva — no manual webhook setup in Greenhouse needed
- Makes the Alva Labs assessment stage available to add to your interview plans (Greenhouse activates it once you've shared your API key)
- Requests access to the data the integration needs: jobs, job stages, candidates, applications, users (hiring team), and custom fields. Alva only adds or edits data where the integration requires it — creating jobs in Greenhouse from Alva, and writing assessment status, notes and report links back to applications.
How you use the integration depends on which part of Alva you work with. Follow one or both sections below.
Use the integration with Alva's Hiring System
With the Hiring System, you create and publish jobs from Alva to Greenhouse, and candidates flow back to Alva automatically.
Create the Alva job template in Greenhouse
Jobs published from Alva are based on a Greenhouse job template. Create it once:
- In Greenhouse, click Add > Create a Job and choose Blank Job
- Name it "Alva Hiring System Template" and tick Set as a Template
- Continue to the Interview Plan step, click Add stage, select Alva Labs and click Add
Create a job in Greenhouse from Alva
- In Alva, create a new Hiring System job and complete the setup — role criteria, assessment plan and job ad
- In the publish step, choose Greenhouse as the destination and select your "Alva Hiring System" template
- Click Finish. The job is created in Greenhouse with the name, job post and description from Alva, based on your template and with you set as hiring manager
Candidates sync automatically to Alva
When a candidate applies to the job in Greenhouse — through your career page or added manually — they automatically appear on the matching position in Alva. Assessments, scoring and stage progression are handled in Alva with no manual imports.
Use the integration with Alva's assessment layer
With the assessment layer, you send Alva assessments to candidates directly from Greenhouse and follow the results on their profile.
Add the Alva stage to a job
- In Greenhouse, open the job and go to its Interview Plan
- Click Add stage, select Alva Labs, and click Add
- Place the stage where you want candidates to be assessed in your hiring process, then click Save at the bottom of the page
- On the Alva Labs stage, click Edit interview
- Under Test Name, choose the profile you want to use for the job position (e.g. Generic High-performer)
- Under Graders and Notifications, select who should grade the test from the Who should grade this test? dropdown and click Save
Send an Alva assessment from Greenhouse
- Open the candidate in Greenhouse and move them to the Alva Labs stage
- Click Send Test
- The candidate receives the assessment invitation from Alva, and you can follow the status on the candidate's Greenhouse profile
See assessment results in Greenhouse
When the candidate completes the assessment the combined test score is visible directly on the candidate profile. Click Go to test to view the full report in Alva.
