Humanly allows customers to screen and engage candidates through asynchronous interviews, questionnaires, and career-page chat apply. Candidates can complete their Humanly assessment on their own schedule, and results are returned to Greenhouse automatically.
Greenhouse Recruiting's integration with Humanly allows you to seamlessly add Humanly's assessment to a job's interview plan, sync open jobs and screening questions, capture career-page and chat applications, and post interview results to the candidate's profile.
Enable the integration
Prerequisites
In Greenhouse Recruiting:
- Site Admin access (required to authorize the Greenhouse connection)
- A Greenhouse Job Board API key (for chat apply / application submission)
- Optional: an External Job Board token (board slug) if you use external job posts
In Humanly:
- Organization admin access to Settings > Integrations
- At least one team in Humanly to scope jobs and candidates
Log into Humanly and retrieve your Assessment API key
In Humanly, go to Settings > Integrations > Manage Integrations.
Click Install on the Greenhouse card.
Open Manage Greenhouse Integration.
Copy the Assessment API key shown in the modal.
Once you have retrieved your API Key from Humanly, follow the steps in this article to add the assessment stage to your interview plans.
Once you've set up your interview plans and configured your take home test, you'll be able to send the test to candidates.
Configure Humanly integration settings
In the Humanly Manage Greenhouse Integration modal, configure the following:

After completing Step 3, click Test Connection to confirm everything is working, then click Save.
Connect Harvest via OAuth 2.0
Humanly connects to Greenhouse using Greenhouse's official, secure partner authorization (OAuth)
In Humanly Manage Greenhouse Integration, click Connect with Greenhouse.
Sign in to Greenhouse and authorize Humanly as a Site Admin.
Once you're redirected back, Humanly saves the connection and automatically sets up the notifications it needs from Greenhouse — no manual setup required.
Integration user (ISU): If you would like to authorize the connection with a dedicated integration user rather than a personal Site Admin account, follow Greenhouse's Connect to Harvest v3 partner integrations article when signing in during this step.
Once connected, Humanly automatically receives updates from Greenhouse whenever jobs or candidates change — no manual webhook setup is required.
Configure Job Board credentials (chat apply)
If candidates apply through a Humanly career page or chat widget, Humanly submits those applications to Greenhouse using the Job Board API. Because Humanly writes candidates directly into your Greenhouse organization, you must generate a Job Board API key for Humanly.
Generate a job board API key
You'll need to create a Job Board API key for Humanly.
Follow the steps in this article and use the information below when creating your API key:
- API Type: Job Board
- Partner: Humanly
- Description: Humanly job board API key

Then, in Humanly, enter the Job Board API key and, if you use external posts, the External Job Board token (use the internal board only if all posts are internal).
Humanly uses these credentials to:
- Submit candidate applications to Greenhouse, including their screening answers
- Fill in missing details about your screening questions so answers land in the right place
- Confirm each candidate's record in Greenhouse after they apply, so interview results can be sent back to the right person later

The integration works with the fields listed below. Standard applicant details — like name, email, phone number, resume, and cover letter — are handled as part of the regular application, so they won't show up again as separate screening questions.

Use the Humanly integration
Manage which Greenhouse jobs are active in Humanly
In Humanly Settings > Integrations, open the Greenhouse card.
Click Manage Jobs.
Select the Greenhouse jobs to assign to a Humanly team.
Assigned jobs become available for workflows, screening sync, and candidate routing. Jobs also refresh via Greenhouse webhooks after assignment.
Sync screening questions from a Greenhouse job post
When a Greenhouse job is assigned in Humanly:
Humanly fetches the live job post from Harvest.
Custom screening questions are imported into a Humanly screening questionnaire on the job.
Tip: Make sure you've entered your Job Board API key (and external board token, if you use external job posts) so question types and answer options import correctly.
Send a candidate from Greenhouse to Humanly (Assessment)
Once the Humanly integration is enabled for your organization, you will be able to add the Humanly assessment as an interview stage.
You can send an assessment to a candidate by selecting the Send Test button next to the interview stage. The assessment instructions will be sent by Humanly.
After it has been sent, an assessment's status will display in Greenhouse Recruiting.
Once the candidate has submitted their test, the Interview Kit will contain a link to view the submitted test in the Humanly application.
To see a candidate's results in Humanly, click Go to test.
Chat apply applications
When a candidate applies through a Humanly-powered career page or chat:
The candidate answers your screening questions right in the chat.
Humanly sends the completed application into Greenhouse automatically.
Their screening answers land in the matching questions in Greenhouse — no manual copying.
Humanly links the application to the candidate's record in Greenhouse, so future updates (like notes or results) go to the right place.
Sending interview results back to Greenhouse
When a candidate completes a Humanly interview or questionnaire linked to Greenhouse:
- For candidates invited through a Greenhouse assessment: results are sent back to Greenhouse automatically and appear where assessment results normally show up — and a note with the results is also added to the candidate's profile.
- For candidates who applied through chat: their results appear as a note on the candidate's Greenhouse profile.
- In both cases, the note shows up right on the candidate's Notes tab, so your team can see it where they already look.
- If scoring is turned on, the note includes a summary of the candidate's score.
