Berry Appleman & Leiden (BAL) provides immigration and global mobility services that help organizations manage work authorization and immigration needs for their employees.
BAL's integration with Greenhouse Recruiting allows recruiters to launch BAL immigration assessments from a candidate record and create or retrieve the related pre-hire immigration project using information already stored in Greenhouse.
Configure the BAL integration
BAL integration setup page showing the option to connect a Greenhouse tenant using OAuth authorization.
BAL will redirect to Greenhouse UI.
Sign in to Greenhouse with an administrator account.
Review the requested permissions and select Authorize.
Confirm that the connection status BAL-Greenhouse is active.
The visibility of the "Send Test to Candidate" link confirms that the connection has been established. When the user clicks Test in the modal, the available BAL assessment should display, confirming that the connection is active.
Use the BAL integration
Initiate a pre-hire immigration case assessment
After the integration is enabled, recruiters initiate the workflow from Greenhouse:
Open the candidate profile and application in Greenhouse.
Set the Requires Immigration Sponsorship field to Yes.
Choose the BAL assessment from the available assessment options.
Click Send Test to send the assessment to BAL. This creates a pre-hire case in BAL's Cobalt system.
Verify in BAL's Cobalt system that the pre-hire assessment case was created.
Data and field mapping
BAL reads the following Greenhouse fields to support assessment assignment and pre-hire project creation. BAL does not edit candidate or job data in Greenhouse as part of this workflow; it creates or updates the related BAL project.
| Greenhouse data | Fields used | How BAL uses the data |
| Candidate | Candidate ID, name, email address, resume | Identifies the person, supports matching, and uploads the resume to the BAL project when available. |
| Application | Application ID and application details | Associates the assessment request and prevents duplicate project creation. |
| Job | Job ID, job title, job post details | Provides the role and hiring context for the BAL pre-hire project. |
| Office | Office and location information | Provides work-location details used in the immigration assessment. |
| Custom fields | Immigration sponsorship-related values | Helps determine whether the candidate requires immigration sponsorship. |
| Assessment | Partner test ID and partner test name | Identifies the BAL assessment selected by the recruiter. |
