Block IP addresses and email domains

This feature is currently in beta and may not be available to your organization.

Blocking known spam sources helps keep unwanted applications out of your jobs. Site Admins can add IP addresses and email domains to a blocklist, and any future applications from those sources will be automatically rejected. Blocked entries are stored in a table where you can add or remove them at any time. This helps saves recruiters time and adds an extra layer of protection against coordinated spam attempts.

Block an IP address or email domain

Navigate to Configure, then select Real Talent from the left-side menu.

Select Spam from the toggle menu at the top.

Choose whether you'd like to block an IP address or email domain by selecting the appropriate heading title. Ip addresses and email domains are logged on two separate tables.

For IP addresses, you can enter either an IPv4 or IPv6 address. Ranges are not supported. They must be entered in the correct format:

  • IPv4: 203.0.113.45
  • IPv6: 2001:db8::1

Note: Every device that connects to the internet has an IP address. In some cases, spam applications come from the same IP address or group of addresses. Adding these to the list helps keep your pipeline focused on candidates who are more likely to be a fit.

For email domains, enter the website address.

Note: An email domain is the part of an email address that comes after the “@” symbol. Domains identify where an email address comes from, and blocking one can help filter out repeated spam applications sent from the same provider.

Some common domains (such as Gmail or Yahoo) can’t be blocked. Because many legitimate candidates use these providers, blocking them could prevent qualified applicants from applying. These domains are automatically excluded from the blocklist.

Check Add multiple to add more than one address or domain. Enter each item on a separate line.

When saved, entries appear in the table with the source, the date added, and the total number of applications blocked since that entry was added.

Applications from blocked sources are filtered when they enter Greenhouse and given the rejection reason "Rejected by organization blocklist". They won't appear in your pipeline. By default, rejection emails are not sent for these applications.

Managing the list

IP addresses or email domains can be removed at any time. Hover over what you'd like to remove and select the Trash icon. You'll be asked to confirm the deletion.

When you delete an entry, applications from that source are no longer filtered and will appear in your pipeline.

The sources of previous applications that have been rejected for spam will not appear on either and will have to be added manually.
