You can use CodeSignal Recruiter and Greenhouse together to seamlessly manage your candidates, keeping Greenhouse data in sync with CodeSignal Recruiter data and vice versa. To implement this integration, you need to authorize CodeSignal Recruiter to use your Greenhouse account.

In this article, we will cover:



CodeSignal is a skills-based assessment platform whose mission is to discover, develop and promote technical talent. Greenhouse Recruiting's integration with CodeSignal Recruiter only needs to be completed by a single user in your organization.

The user performing the integration setup must have the following prerequisites:

  • You must be logged in to your CodeSignal Recruiter account.
  • You must have a CodeSignal Recruiter user type of Admin.
  • You must be logged in to your Greenhouse Recruiting account.
  • You must have developer permissions on Greenhouse.


Configure User Setup Permissions in Greenhouse Recruiting

In order to enable the Greenhouse/CodeSignal integration, you will need the developer permission Can manage ALL organization’s API Credentials and Can manage and configure web hooks.

Contact a Greenhouse user in your organization with Site Admin level permissions with the additional user-specific permission Can edit another user's advanced permissions to apply the API credential management permission to your account. Have the user with Site Admin level permissions edit your user account's permissions by navigating to the Configure icon configure.png > Users > Your Name.


The user with Site Admin level permissions should navigate to the Permissions panel on your user page and expand the Developer Permissions dropdown menu. 

Select Can manage ALL organization’s API Credentials and Can manage and configure web hooks so that a check is in the checkbox. When finished, click Save.



Create a Harvest API Key for the Greenhouse/Codesignal Integration 

To create a Harvest API key for the integration, click on the Configure icon configure.png in the upper right-hand corner. Navigate to Dev Center on the left-hand panel.

From the Dev Center page, click API Credential Management.


From the API Credential Management page, click Create New API Key to generate the API key for CodeSignal. 


From the Create new credential dialog box, give your API key a name and select Harvest from the Type dropdown menu. When finished, click Create


On the Manage API Key Permissions page, choose Select All. Then click Update.

Your Harvest API Key is created. Navigate to your newly created Harvest API Key and click Copy.

Log in to your CodeSignal Recruiter account and navigate to your name in the upper right-hand corner of your dashboard. Select Integrations from the dropdown menu.


Click Integrate next to the option for Greenhouse and then click Settings.

From the subsequent dialog box, paste your copied Greenhouse Harvest API key in the provided field.


Enable Greenhouse/Codesignal Webhooks

Once the Greenhouse Harvest API Key is pasted into the dialog box, navigate to the Webhooks section and click the Webhooks page link. 

The CodeSignal Recruiter Chrome Extension will pop up on the right side of the page. Click Create All.

Once you see the success message, click the Back to CodeSignal


CodeSignal Recruiter Assessment API Key and User Mapping

Click Copy to copy the pre-populated CodeSignal Recruiter Assessment API Key to your clipboard.


Once you have received your API key, email or click here to open a ticket.

Note: Do not send the API key in this initial email.

The Greenhouse Support Team will respond with a SendSafely link for you to enter your API key. A notification will be sent to the Greenhouse Support Team after you have entered your API key and they will email you to confirm that your API key has been set up in your account.

Once the Greenhouse support team has uploaded this key to your Greenhouse account, CodeSignal Recruiter Test will be one of the available options when you're creating an interview plan in Greenhouse.  

​Click Next. The dialog box will advance to the next slide, User Account Mapping.

For each CodeSignal Recruiter user in your company, select the corresponding Greenhouse user. All CodeSignal Recruiter users must be mapped in order to be able to use the Greenhouse integration.



Click Save. Set up in CodeSignal is now complete!

Congratulations! You have successfully integrated your Greenhouse account and your CodeSignal Recruiter account.


Add and Send CodeSignal Assessment in Greenhouse 

In Greenhouse, you can now add the CodeSignal Test stage to Interview Plans. Select a job and click Job Setup. Scroll down to Interview Plan and click Edit.

Click Add Stage and select CodeSignal Test. Click Add to incorporate sending a CodeSignal Test to your Interview Plan.  

With the CodeSignal assessment added to your Interview Plan, whenever a candidate is moved to that stage, a Send Test link will allow you to send an assessment.  

Select the test that you want to send, as well as the name of the person who should evaluate the test. The candidate's email address will be auto-populated 


Once the test has been sent, Greenhouse will display its status (i.e. "Sent"). Once the test is completed, the candidate's score will be recorded in the CodeSignal Test stage.


Schedule a candidate's interview in Greenhouse

  1. Open a candidate's profile in Greenhouse and click on "+ Add Interview" in the appropriate stage.
  2. Under the Location field is a "+ CodeSignal Interview Link" button. Click to auto-generate an interview URL.Screen_Shot_2019-04-29_at_5.16.04_PM.png
  3. The CodeSignal Interview URL will auto-populate within the Location field. Send this URL to both the interviewer(s) and candidate to access their interview session at the scheduled time.Screen_Shot_2019-04-29_at_5.17.38_PM.png

  4. During or after the interview session, the interviewer can leave optional candidate feedback within CodeSignal. If provided, this feedback will appear as a note within Greenhouse on the candidate's profile under Activity Feed.
