DevSkiller is a platform for companies to test software developers. DevSkiller provides a tool to evaluate the skills of developers and aid in the automatization of recruiting processes. This happens with the help of DevSkiller's library of tests and tasks designed to reflect real issues developers might face in their daily work. Companies can also create their own to best suit their needs. While screening technical talent is DevSkiller's specialty, DevSkiller also aims to guide tech HR managers and try to offer the best advice through articles written by DevSkiller's top development and HR specialists.
Greenhouse Recruiting's integration with DevSkiller allows you to assess the skills of your candidates as part of the Greenhouse Recruiting workflow. Simply add a DevSkiller stage to your interview plan in Greenhouse Recruiting, and invite candidates to complete the test through Greenhouse Recruiting. The candidate's results then appear in Greenhouse Recruiting, allowing you to complete a scorecard and advance/reject candidates.
In this article, we will cover how to:
Enable DevSkiller integration
To start, contact your DevSkiller representative to request your API key. Once you have received your API key, click here to open a ticket with the Greenhouse Support team.
Note: Do not send the API key in this initial email.
The Greenhouse Support team will respond with a SendSafely link for you to enter your API key. A notification will be sent to the Greenhouse Support team after you have entered your API key and they will email you to confirm that your API key has been set up in your account and your integration is enabled.
Note: To verify your identity, the Greenhouse Support team might request you provide a Support Verification Code before adding the API key to your organization's account.
Here's a quick guide on how to obtain your API key in DevSkiller:
Configure user setup permissions in Greenhouse Recruiting
In order to enable the DevSkiller integration, you need the developer permission Can manage ALL organization’s API Credentials.
Contact a Greenhouse Recruiting user in your organization with Site Admin level permissions with the additional user-specific permission Can edit another user's advanced permissions to apply the API credential management permission to your account. Have the user with Site Admin level permissions edit your user account's permissions by navigating to the Configure icon > Users > Your Name.
The user with Site Admin level permissions should navigate to the User-Specific Permissions panel on your user page and expand the Developer Permissions dropdown menu.
Select Can manage and configure webhooks so a check is in the checkbox. When finished, click Save.
Repeat as necessary for any other user that should have access to set up the integration.
Obtain Greenhouse Recruiting job board token
For DevSkiller to pull your open jobs, you must send them your job board token.
From your Greenhouse Recruiting account, click the Configure icon in the top-right corner. From the Configure page, click Dev Center on the left panel, and then click Configuring Your Job Board.
Navigate to the Your Board Token section of the page. The displayed value is your job board token. Copy this value and provide it to your DevSkiller account representative.
Add DevSkiller interview stage and use the integration
Once the DevSkiller integration is enabled for your organization, you can add the DevSkiller assessment as an interview stage.
To do this for an existing job, navigate to a job (All Jobs > job) and click Job Setup from the job navigation bar. From the Job Setup page, click Interview Plan on the left panel.
Click Add stage at the top right of the page.
From the Add Stage dialog box, select the DevSkiller stage. When finished, click Add at the bottom of the dialog box to add the stage to the job's interview plan.
Once the stage has been added to the job's interview plan, click Edit.
Use the provided dropdown menu to choose the assessment you have previously set up in DevSkiller. The information will be imported from your DevSkiller Account (Active tests)
Note: Keep in mind the creation and configuration of the assessment itself, as well as the branding you decide to use, must be completed in DevSkiller.
Customize all options in the section according to your recruiting needs, then click Save when finished.
You have successfully added a DevSkiller assessment to your Greenhouse Recruiting interview plan. You can send invitations to the candidates you want!
To do this, access the candidate/candidates or job opening, go to the DevSkiller stage and click Send Test. Select the user from your team to grade it, and click Send Test.
Note: The other options like the recipient and test are set by default, but you can change them.
Once the candidate or candidates complete the test and send their answers, you will be notified via email and suitable information appears in both DevSkiller and Greenhouse Recruiting. You can then assess the candidate and make a decision based on the score they’ve received from the DevSkiller test.
In Greenhouse Recruiting, the score appears in your Interview Kit. It may serve as a summary of the timespan of the recruitment process as shown below.
You can access the full test results in the DevSkiller platform.
After filling your scoreboard, you can decide on the candidate — whether to proceed further with the recruitment process or reject the candidate. It’s important to note making a decision in DevSkiller doesn’t affect the decision in Greenhouse Recruiting. It’s made so you have control over your candidate in Greenhouse Recruiting, as the complete candidate assessment tool.
Candidates can appear on your list in different phases of the DevSkiller stage of the recruitment, depending on how advanced the process is.
The most important stages you'll encounter are:
- Waiting for the candidate to submit test: This means the candidate you’ve invited either hasn't submitted the answers to the test or they are still being evaluated. You can check this in your DevSkiller account.
- Scorecard due to [the person responsible for the candidate]: The candidate is waiting for the person responsible to fill the scorecard.
- Needs decision in DevSkiller: This means the scorecard has been filled and there is a recommendation from the recruiter on whether you should accept the candidate or not. The DevSkiller score from the test is also displayed along with a thumbs down or thumbs up icon.
As shown below, all this information is accessible from your Greenhouse Recruiting dashboard.
After using the integration, you may decide you want to share more info between Greenhouse Recruiting and DevSkiller. If you would like additional information transferred over, please contact the DevSkiller Customer Success with a list of items to add!
